Our Ongoing Commitment to Open-Source

In 2024, Tideways joined the Open-Source Pledge, a movement encouraging tech companies to support open-source maintainers financially. Since then, the initiative has grown rapidly, even earning a collective spotlight on the iconic Nasdaq screen in Times Square.

We believe in the power of open-source to drive innovation, collaboration, and progress. That’s why we continued on our path in 2025 and will take support into account in our planning for the coming years.

Open-source is at the heart of what we do. Many of our team members have contributed to PHP itself and to key open-source libraries. Without these collective efforts, we couldn’t help our customers make their applications faster and more reliable. Supporting the community, with both our time and resources, is therefore second nature to us.

Without them, Tideways would not be able to function the way it does, and we wouldn’t be able to optimize website performance for our customers the way we do. Therefore, it is a given for us to provide support to the community in any manner possible, whether it be through time or financial contributions.

Last year we donated a total of $15,235 to different open-source projects. With four full-time developers in 2025, we remain committed to spending above the pledge’s $2,000 per-developer requirement on open-source projects and maintainers each year.

The dedication and effort that go into open-source work are well worth supporting. In 2025, we continued our commitment to the community by sponsoring several open-source projects.

Our contributions so far include sponsorships for some of PHP’s most essential projects:

  • The PHP Foundation, where we are a founding member.
  • PHPUnit, whose long-term maintenance we’re helping to ensure.
  • Xdebug, which we support as a business sponsor.

Open-source isn’t just something we use; it’s what we build on. Tideways runs on PHP, and the success of this language is deeply intertwined with our own. We’re grateful to be part of such a vibrant ecosystem and proud to give back to it.

Do you rely on open-source software? You most likely do! Ask your company to also join the pledge. And if you work with PHP, you should really start sponsoring the PHP Foundation!
